It is also a packaged that will need the seeds to be sown and will take time to mature.
Info on the seeds
Seed is best sown in the autumn or spring but can be sown at other times of the year if there is sufficient warmth and moisture. On shallow growing medium irrigation may be needed to maintain establishment through dry periods. The seed must be surface sown: do not incorporate or cover the seed. Bulk up the seed with an inert carrier such as sand to make distribution easier.
Our UK Green Roofing kits are a blend of high quality products that have been put together so you can create the best living roof on the market.
The UK Green Roofing package comes with protective fleece, minimum 100mm substrate and a wildflower and grass seeds so you can create a living roof that looks stunning all year round.
We also have the UK Green Roofing Sedum Mat, UK Green Roofing Wildflower and Perennial Mat and we have per them in sq.m packages so you can order the perfect amount for your roof. There are living roof edging products available and we sell the individual parts separately so you can create your own package. You will need to contact us for the vegetation layer price as this is based on your location, but the substrate, roof drain and protective fleece are available on the website.
Our wildflower and grass seed needs to be sown It comes with a mixture of Grasses and wildflowers with differing colours and leaf forms. It is low maintenance and has a high tolerance to low amounts of water, due to the increased substrate thickness compared to other living roof systems.
The varieties of wildflower and grasses gives you a huge variety of colour and help enhance biodiversity over a pure sedum only roof. The mixture is designed to have a range of plants that will flower between April to September which not only add a visual appeal but provides an excellent habitat for wildlife. Colours range form greens through to vibrant reds, oranges, purples and browns.
Research has shown that wildflower green roofs attract twice as many bee species and five times as many blossom visits compared to pure sedum roofs.
Maintenance is easy with light hand weeding once or twice a year to keep out wind blown seeds and one light cut in late autumn removing all cuttings.
A Vegetation Barrier of 300mm to 500mm is made up from 20-40mm washed pebbles or gravel, which is used around the roof edge and also any drainage outlets or roof openings such as skylights, to prevent root penetration. (This needs to be bought separately depending on your projects needs).
The living roof edging products are manufactured in the UK from a high percentage of recycled aluminium supplied pre punched and profiled in 2.4m lengths in 100mm, 120mm and 150mm to suit various depths of substrate. All corners and straight connectors are available too. For the UK Green Roofing Wildflower Kits we recommend the 150mm option. (This needs to be bought separately depending on your projects needs).
The Substrate is an extensive mixture which makes for a low maintenance living roof, the substrate will be delivered in either bulk bags of 1.7 cubic metres or as bulk bags plus 25L bags of intensive substrate and 50L bags of Lecca. The 25L to 50L bags need to be mixed on site to make the same extensive substrate mix that comes in the bulk bags. This is to make sure there is always a minimum of 100mm of substrate depth on all our living roof packages.
For the waterproof layer we recommend using the Hertalan EPDM membranes, PRO-EPDM membranes or RESITRIX SKW. For full systems and help with your Living Roof please contact us.
